The surprising thing is the e36 to e46 jump. The e90 ditched a soft top for a metal one, so the extra weight makes sense. But what happened with the e46?

The penalty in the E36 was 200+ lbs for the convertible; looks like the E46 was closer to 400. That's a lot of underbody bracing...

Sure about that? The specs just came out for the new cars, but the German curb weights are always different than U.S. figures (they add driver, etc.).

Oh nevermind the F80 weighs 60 pounds more which isn't that bad comparing some newer cars compared to their predecessors.
